I admit I watch the CW’s new fall show Hellcats. I don’t watch it on my own accord because I watch it along with my wife who enjoys it. I guess I could get up and walk away from the TV while its on, but I don’t. The reason is that I can handle watching it…for my wife’s sake.
Ashley Tisdale’s character is Savannah Moore who, as described on CW’s website, is “a petite, peppy Texan and captain of the Hellcats. Savannah has led a sheltered life up to this point. She was home-schooled by her strictly religious parents, but recently had a falling out with them over her newfound secular lifestyle, co-ed living arrangements and racy Hellcats outfits.”
In episodes thus far Savannah’s mom has been extremely judgmental of her daughter’s choices to switch schools in order to pursue cheerleading. At one point she brings a boy to dinner with her family and they end up leaving because the mom essentially states that they boy isn’t in their class, ie – he isn’t good enough for the family. After a few minutes of watching her family on screen you would think that if they really represent every aspect of Christianity, no one would follow Jesus. Luckily they don’t represent every aspect of Christianity, but they does represent some aspects of Christians.
For those of you out there who have experienced this kind of judging from the mouths and eyes of those who claim to follow Christ – I’m sorry.
Confession #15: We had judged and not loved. We have taken the ideals of scripture and not lived them out like Christ did.
